Program: Part-Time Online Accelerated Bootcamp
Testimonial:
It was amazing to see how far I had come in four months. I went from knowing very little about programming to being able to present a full-stack application that I created entirely by myself. This curriculum is great because it can accelerate your learning and teach so much in such a short time.
Please tell us a bit about yourself. What were you doing professionally before you started bootcamp?
26 years old, my main passions include reading, traveling, and yoga. Before the bootcamp, my college degree was in Mechanical Engineering. I went on to work as a Project Engineer in the construction industry for four years after graduation.
Why did you choose to enroll in a bootcamp for coding?
Although I had some coding knowledge from my engineering classes, it didn’t really stick with me after college. After graduating from college, I worked for three years. I was interested in a local coding bootcamp because it offered the opportunity to practice coding and to see if it was something that I enjoyed. It was a lot of fun and I decided to join Coding Dojo because you only have so much knowledge. It is difficult to learn as much and as quickly as Coding Dojo.
What were your fears and doubts that prevented you from enrolling? How did you overcome them?
Part-time Online Accelerated was the program I chose. My main fear was that I would not be able to balance my full-time job and bootcamp work. I set a strict schedule for myself at bootcamp, and kept it up. This was a key factor in my success. I tried to code for 2.5-3 hours each morning before going to work and then a bit more in the evenings. Although the schedule was important to me, I found myself putting in more hours for the bootcamp after work and weekends. It was so enjoyable that it never felt like a chore.
What was the secret to Coding Dojo’s success? Why did you choose Coding Dojo over other programs?
I was attracted to the program’s flexibility and online part-time, along with Coding Dojo’s reputation.
How was it to get ready for bootcamp? Were you nervous, excited, etc.? How did you prepare?
I took full advantage of the pre-bootcamp assignments provided by Coding Dojo and spent a lot time on it before the bootcamp began. This helped me to become familiar with Coding Dojo’s learning system and course materials.
Take us through the first few weeks of the program. Which parts were your favorites? What parts did you struggle with?
From start to finish, the bootcamp was a great experience. Each assignment would have you taking a big step towards becoming a software developer. It was also a lot fun to continue developing your skills throughout.
What were your strategies for overcoming the difficulties you faced?
Any areas I had difficulty with during the bootcamp, at the beginning or the end, were solved by sitting down with a TA/instructor and reviewing the assignment. This 1:1 time was the reason I felt confident choosing Coding Dojo. Everyone cares about you and wants you succeed. They will take the time to explain concepts until it is clear to you.
Do you have any funny stories to share about bootcamp? Make friends! Do you have fond memories?
I found it enjoyable to be around people who were in the same place as me, trying to learn code to become a software developer. After struggling for so many years to learn, it was great to find people who were following the same path as me and shared the same interests.
How did you feel about your job prospects and skills as you neared graduation?
I was truly amazed at how much muc could be found in my area.
